Welcome to Civil Sidewalks.  We are a grassroots group of families, residents and small merchants who believe that sidewalks should be a safe place for our children, elderly and disabled.

Unfortunately the people who encamp on city sidewalks are becoming increasing intolerant of people who are merely trying to walk by. This had led to threats, violence, and physical retaliation.

We want to return civility to our sidewalks because they belong to everybody. Join our coalition today.  Let’s make our sidewalks safe for everyone.

This is not about Homelessness

Make no mistake, this is not about homelessness. Our supporters are the very people who help the homeless everyday. Our supporters are members of the ACLU, we are families, merchants and small business owners. We are fourth and fifth generation San Franciscans, and as San Franciscans it is our duty to make our city safe and to keep it thriving.

Our opponents have made their position clear. They think people should be able to setup camp in the middle of the sidewalk. Mid-day, just take ownership, lay claim to a portion of the thoroughfare, and block the way. What our opponents don’t know is that our sidewalks are for everyone.

Help us restore civility on our sidewalks.

Civil Sidewalks is a grassroots movement formed by neighbors, families, merchants, our seniors and disabled advocates who want to move freely on our City sidewalks.

Started in the Haight-Ashbury district – once synonymous with peace and love – this corridor is now a hot spot for street bullies, pit bulls and drug abuse. Sidewalks are for everyone and the Civil Sidewalks coalition wants to make sure that everyone in San Francisco can enjoy them.
